DAY 17 – PIRATE RADIO

Any movie with a great soundtrack will usually keep me interested. From the creator of LOVE ACTUALLY, Richard Curtis, comes the loosely-based-on-a-true-story film PIRATE RADIO (2009). Set in the ’60’s, the movie bears the account of outlaw radio djs that were broadcasting illicit rock ‘n’ roll from boats offshore of mainland Britain. Even with the killer soundtrack, the outstanding ensemble cast which included Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, and Rhys Ifans, Kenneth Branagh, and Emma Thompson, this movie was ultimately disjointed to the point of only being a rough series of funny bits. In small scenes across the film the performances were good, but not woven together into a cohesive picture. It was a fun watch that could possibly have been on the level of GOOD MORNING VIETNAM, but didn’t make it. Alas.
